Unreal Tournament (UT) pits you against deadly Bots in a fight for your life. Controlling strategic points, capturing the enemy flag and free for all battles are just the tip of the iceberg as you compete in the 50 different maps. Maps with special rules allow for unique battles and challenges.
Basic Gameplay
In UT you are competing for glory and your life. You battle as teams or alone through a multitude of levels and scenarios. As you progress through the levels you unlock the different scenarios allowing you to compete in those. In each scenario there are several maps that you can play and the more maps you finish the higher you will rank. Each is more difficult than the last. On top of the increasing difficulty you can set a master difficulty level that adjusts everything.
Very Easy to Control
The controls in UT are very simple to use. The arrow keys are the default movement keys and the mouse is used for aiming and shooting. Maps with special rules like the Morpheus map can change the normal gameplay you're used to. Morpheus turns down gravity and lets you jump impossible distances to perform flying kills.

Deathmatch, Domination, and Capture the Flag
Several scenario modes let you experience all different types of gameplay. In Deathmatch it is you against everyone else, no teams here. Gun pickups, ammo, health packs and shields will help you control the arena and get the appropriate number of kills to win the match. Domination mode has you on a team trying to control locations that generate points. There are 3 locations and two teams, the more locations you control the more points you get. The first team to 100 points wins. Another mode, Capture the Flag, is played just like you would think. You must run through the enemies base, capture their flag and return it to your own base. This mode is also played in teams.
Nice Killing Devices
A large variety of guns are available for use in the game. Guns such as the Pulse rifle and Rocket launcher let you devastate your enemies. The pulse rifle, like all guns, has a secondary mode of fire. A continuous beam of energy streams out of the gun and cuts easily through the bots. Guns are picked up in all modes except Last Man Standing. In this mode you start with all the weapons available and can only pick up ammo.
Trash Talking Bots
The bots are very effective in UT and even go as far as trash talking you when you get killed by them. With the adjustable difficulty level, the bots can be as hard or harder to kill than real life players. Additionally, the bots allow you to experience the game without utilizing online play. Since this game is now an older version there is limited number of online players left to compete against.
Some Minor Annoyances
There are very few drawbacks to this game. While playing the camera can be a bit jumpy. You can occasionally miss things because the camera will be in one spot then instantly in another. The game can also have problems with the graphics. From time to time everything will go crazy and you won't be able to tell what's going on. To resolve this you have to restart the game.
Conclusion - The Stellar and Original Unreal Tournament
UT is a great first person shooter. Later games in the series are superior, such as UT2004, that has similar gameplay but much more content might be a better choice. If you enjoy playing classics, this is the game that got the UT series rolling.
A few minor glitches are pale in comparison to what this game has to offer. With all the blood and gore this game is better suited for older players, however, everyone who plays will find something they love.

Intense, violent, multiplayer combat competition returns to the PC -- and it is Unreal. This first full sequel to the lauded 1998 original Unreal Tournament is designed to deliver the defining Unreal style of first-person multiplayer combat at an unprecedented level of graphical detail and audio quality. Futuristic gladiators strive ferociously to eliminate their opponents with intelligent tactics and massively powerful weaponry. As in the original UT, single players hone skills as they work their way up a ladder of challenges against computer controlled 'bots, but the primary focus of the game is online competition with other human contestants.
The game's background story is set over a century after the Liandri Mining Corporation tournaments of the original game were first established. A powerful alien race has invaded our corner of the universe, murdering millions and reducing humanity to slavery. Though initially disturbed by the unpredictability of the tournaments, the alien Empire soon realized the benefits of providing human slaves with an outlet for their more carnal tendencies and desires. The Empire now controls the tournament, from above and within. Strange alien warriors join human contenders in the gladiator battles, though at greater risk, for their nature prevents the chance for resurrection available to human competitors. The violent competition continues as all of humanity waits, holding on to the desperate hope that a hero will one day rise to battle through the Emperor's impossible contests and win true freedom for all.
Unreal Tournament 2003 offers play as one of 35 warrior characters of six different races. Characters can now enjoy class-specific special moves and defined roles in squad-based games. Battles take place on 30 arena maps, set on the most desolate and foreboding planets in the known galaxy. Many favorite weapons from the original game return, along with several brand new implements of violence. An improved physics model and many new animations bring variety to character death effects. Unreal Tournament 2003 also introduces a wholly new element to gameplay: adrenaline. The adrenaline power-up is intended to add a fresh layer of chaos to the combat, as affected characters are able to perform enhanced special moves.
